Sander Owen

Sander Owen is a Norwegian part-time drummer, singer-songwriter, and producer.

He started playing the drums at age five, initially because no one else wanted to be the drummer in his older brother’s Kiss cover band. When he was fourteen he landed a gig as an instructor for over twenty students of all ages. By the time he was fifteen, he was playing regularly at the local club (with written permission from his parents). The club owner made him a part of the weekly house band, and hooked him up with bigger acts, such as the Swedish artist Marie Bergman.

At seventeen he got a job at a sound production company, where he produced music for movies and television (Norsk Film, Gyldendal, TV Norge, Floyd Food, Røde Kors and more). He also had a rehearsal studio that unexpectedly expanded into a small but fairly successful business. He graduated with top grades in drums at that time studying under Audun Kleive.

Fluid in virtually all genres, Sander has done hundreds of shows and played on dozens of recordings. In his mid twenties, however, work dried up. He took odd jobs as a bartender, while planning a move to the US.

In Los Angeles, he got a lucky break. He ran into Kenny Aronoff (session drummer - Smashing Pumpkins, John Fogerty, Elton John). Aronoff was in the mood for handing out some good advice. As a result, Sander went on to work with Ric Fierabracci (bassist - Tom Jones, Chick Corea), Michael Gabbay (professional songwriter), and many others. Matt Malley (bassist - Counting Crows) agreed to produce his album, but Sander was unable to procure funding for it. He was also invited to audition for Ransom Briggs, the son of Tim Briggs (guitarist - Alabama). Sander played at The Whiskey a Go Go with The Gravity Guild. They warmed up for Machina (former members of Evanescence) at a major label showcase. He has also played and recorded at venues such as The Musician's Institute, The Baked Potato, Dragonfly in Hollywood, SAE, Red White and Blues, The Kibitz Room, and many more.

Today he lives in Oslo, Norway, and enjoys distributing his music over the Internet.
